What is NMHC?

Based in Washington, DC, the National Multi Housing Council is a national association representing the interests of the larger and most prominent apartment firms in the U.S.  NMHC's members are the principal officers of firms engaged in all aspects of the apartment industry, including ownership, development, management, and financing.

NMHC advocates on behalf of rental housing, conducts apartment-related research, encourages the exchange of strategic business information, and promotes the desirability of apartment living.

Under the umbrella of the NMHC Technology Forum, the Council launched the MITS data standard effort in March 2002.    NMHC's role is to help facilitate the industry's collective effort to develop a common data standard.  The Council will provide the institutional structure for the development and ongoing maintenance of the MITS project by hosting the Working Group's meetings and coordinating its activities.  The Council will also work to broaden industry awareness of the effort.

All industry participants, whether NMHC members or not, are welcome to join the MITS effort as voting members and/or participate as non-voting members and submit comments on the draft data dictionary and XML schema.
